Important: Existing Suremail mailboxes will remain available for a limited transition period only.
Customers should create a new email address and begin moving their accounts immediately.
What is happening?
After a very long run, we are finally saying goodbye to suremail.com.au.
The mailboxes currently operating under suremail.com.au will no longer be available after the
transition period. Due to changes in domain registration requirements and the ongoing cost of maintaining the
domain name and mail servers, Suremail will no longer continue operating this email service.
The servers currently running Suremail are due to lapse in August and will not be renewed.
What this means for customers
Customers using a Suremail email address will need to move to a new email provider of their choice.
This may be a free email provider, your internet service provider, a business email provider, or another email
hosting company.
Please do not wait until the final few days.
Some online accounts may require email confirmation before you can change your address, and some services may
send security codes to your existing Suremail mailbox.
Recommended new email providers
You may choose any provider you prefer. Common options include:
- Gmail
- Microsoft Outlook / Hotmail / Microsoft 365
- Apple iCloud Mail
- Your internet service provider’s email service
- A business email hosting provider
- A private domain email provider
Suremail does not require customers to move to any specific provider.
Step-by-step migration guide
Step 1: Create a new email address
First, create a new mailbox with your chosen provider. For example:
- yourname@gmail.com
- yourname@outlook.com
- yourname@icloud.com
- yourname@yournewdomain.com.au
Once your new mailbox has been created, test that you can send and receive email from it.
Step 2: Request forwarding from Suremail
To assist with the transition, Suremail can provide temporary forwarding from your existing Suremail address to
your new email address.
For example:
oldaddress@suremail.com.au → newaddress@gmail.com
To request forwarding, please contact us with the following details:
- Your current Suremail email address
- Your new email address
- Confirmation that you want forwarding enabled
Important note about forwarding:
Forwarding is intended as a temporary transition service only. You should still update your email address directly
with your contacts, banks, government services, subscriptions, and online accounts.
Step 3: Tell your contacts
Notify your important contacts that your email address has changed.
This may include:
- Family and friends
- Business contacts
- Banks and financial institutions
- Government services
- Insurance providers
- Medical providers
- Utilities and phone providers
- Schools, clubs, or associations
You may use the message below:
Please note that my email address has changed.
My new email address is: [your new email address]
Please update your records.
Step 4: Update your online accounts
Many services use your email address for login, password recovery, invoices, receipts, and security alerts.
Please log in to your important accounts and update your email address from your Suremail address to your new
address.
Important accounts to check include:
- Banking
- ATO / MyGov
- PayPal and payment services
- Superannuation
- Insurance
- Mobile phone provider
- Electricity, gas, and water providers
- Online shopping accounts
- Social media accounts
- Apple ID, Google account, or Microsoft account
- Streaming services
- Travel accounts
- Domain names or website hosting accounts
- Business systems and subscriptions
This step is very important.
Once your Suremail mailbox is no longer accessible, you may not be able to receive password reset emails,
security codes, or account verification emails sent to that address.
Step 5: Save or move your existing emails
Before the Suremail mailbox is closed, please save any emails that you need to keep.
Depending on your email program, you may be able to:
- Copy emails from Suremail into your new mailbox
- Export emails to a local file
- Save important emails as PDF files
- Forward important emails to your new address
- Use an email program such as Outlook, Thunderbird, or Apple Mail to copy folders across
If you have important business, tax, legal, or personal records in your Suremail mailbox, please make sure they
are backed up before the closure date.
Step 6: Update your devices
Once your new mailbox is ready, update your devices and email programs.
Please check:
- Mobile phone
- Tablet
- Laptop or desktop computer
- Outlook
- Apple Mail
- Thunderbird
- Gmail app
- Mail app on iPhone or Android
- Any business system that sends or receives email
Please remove or disable the old Suremail account only after you have saved anything you need.
What will stop working?
After the Suremail service closes, the following may no longer work:
- Logging in to your Suremail mailbox
- Sending email through Suremail servers
- Receiving email directly into your Suremail mailbox
- Recovering passwords using your Suremail address
- Accessing old emails stored only on the Suremail server
- Email settings using Suremail incoming or outgoing mail servers

What Suremail can help with
We can assist with:
- Confirming your current Suremail mailbox
- Setting up temporary forwarding to your new email address
- Providing your existing mail server settings if required
- Helping you understand the basic migration steps
We cannot choose a new provider for you, manage your third-party accounts, or guarantee access to old emails
after the shutdown date.
Final reminder
We understand that changing email addresses can be inconvenient, especially for customers who have used Suremail
for many years. We will do what we reasonably can to make the transition easier.
However, all users must move to a new mailbox before the shutdown date.
Please begin the process as soon as possible.
